Get ready because I am going to show you how to make pita chips from pita bread using a few ingredients and your air fryer. Don’t worry if you do not have an air fryer, I also included the oven instructions below.
Ingredients For Air Fryer Pita Chips
Here are the simple ingredients you’ll need to make these amazing crispy pita chips in the air fryer.

- Pita Bread– any type of pita bread will work here, white, whole wheat, flavored pita, gluten free pita. I used a thicker, whole pocket pita that was great! Plus, the whole wheat pita has extra fiber, which is great! I used Joseph’s Pita Bread.
- Olive oil – extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil will work great in this pita chip recipe. You just want to make sure it is a flavorful oil.
- Sea salt – a little bit of sea salt gives these pita chips the perfect flavor that is simple but so good! Of course you can add your favorite seasoning blend or go the traditional route and season the pita with Zaatar seasoning if you like. You could also season them with a sweet topping like cinnamon sugar when they are nice and hot right out of the air fryer.
- Garlic powder and pepper – optional seasoning that adds an extra layer of flavor to the pita chips.

Here is a summary of the steps for making this simple air fryer pita chips recipe.

Step 1: Cut the pita bread – to cut the pita bread, place it onto a cutting board and use a pizza cutter or a sharp kitchen knife to cut it into 1.5 inch triangles. You should get 6-8 pieces from one 6-8 inch size pita bread.

Step 2: Season – add the cut pita to a mixing bowl, drizzle with oil and season with salt. Toss to coat it all nicely.

Step 4: Air fry – preheat the air fryer to 330°F, once it is ready, Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange the seasoned pita chips in the air fryer in a single layer – with just a few overlapping. Cook for 4 minutes, flip and cook for 4 more minutes until golden and crispy. Note: cook in batches if needed.

- You can use any type of pita bread you like. Thicker pita breads will take a bit longer to cook and thinner pita bread will take less time. I suggest checking the pita at the 3-4 minutes mark and continue cooking until desired crispiness is achieved.
- Cut the pita bread in even size triangle so they all cook at the same time. You should get 6-8 pita chips out of a 6-inch pita bread.
- Season the pita chips evenly for optimal flavor.
- Shake the chips in the basket halfway through cooking to allow all sides to get golden and crispy.

Ingredients
- 4–6 6-inch pita breads
- 1–2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper – optional
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder – optional
Instructions
- Cut the pit bread by placing a pita on a cutting board and use a pizza cutter or kitchen knife to cut the pita into 6-8 even size triangles. Continue until you have cut all of the pita chips.
- Add the cut pita chips to a medium size bowl, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with the seasoning. Toss to fully coat.
- Preheat the air fryer to 330°F, then spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray. Add the seasoned pita chips to the air fryer basket and spread them out. Close and cook for 4 minutes, toss the chips in the basket then cook for 4 more minutes until golden and crispy.
- Serve the chips warm or at room temperature with your favorite hummus or dip.
