This easy, high-protein cottage cheese queso comes together in just 5 minutes with only 3 ingredients—right in the blender! It’s a lighter take on classic queso that’s still rich, creamy, and perfectly cheesy. Packed with protein and made for dipping, it’s the ultimate feel-good queso for scooping up with tortilla chips.

Honestly, I’m not even surprised cottage cheese is having its moment—it’s basically the quiet protein hero we all overlooked. Growing up, my mom (the queen of healthy eating) mixed it into just about everything, so to me this isn’t some trendy new discovery… it’s a comeback. Cottage cheese just waited patiently for its glow-up

Lately my feed has been flooded with cottage cheese queso reels, so of course I had to jump in and try this viral moment for myself. I kept it super simple—just 3 main ingredients: cottage cheese (the star of the show), taco seasoning, and shredded cheddar.

And let me tell you…this dip delivers. It’s everything you want in classic queso—warm, smooth, and ultra cheesy—but with a creamy twist and a subtle tang from the cottage cheese. Bonus? It’s packed with protein. Scoop it up with tortilla chips and you’ve got yourself a fun, Mexican-inspired dip that feels a little indulgent and a lot smarter.

Ingredients You’ll Need

You only need a few simple ingredients to make the amazing queso dip recipe with cottage cheese. Here is what you’ll need:

Ingredients for cottage cheese queso dip in bowls with labels over each ingredient.
  • Cottage cheese – I used 4% milkfat small curd cottage cheese but any cottage cheese will work in this recipe. The higher fat% cottage cheeses will result in a creamier dip. We love Good Culture brand.
  • Taco seasoning – I love Siete brand taco seasoning as a shortcut but you could also make a homemade taco seasoning.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese – I like to shred my own cheddar cheese but pre-shredded works fine too. You could also use pepperjack cheese.

Recommended Kitchen Tools

  • Measuring cup + measuring spoons
  • High-speed blender
  • Microwave-safe bowl

Recipe Tips (for queso perfection!)

  • Blend it silky smooth – Take the time to really blend the cottage cheese with the taco seasoning until it’s creamy and mostly lump-free. You want that classic queso vibe!
  • Taste and tweak – Give it a quick taste and adjust as needed. Want more kick? A splash of hot sauce does the trick.
  • Melt with patience – Melt the cheese in short bursts (about 30 seconds at a time), stirring in between so everything melts evenly and nothing scorches.
  • Serve it hot and melty – This queso is best enjoyed warm, fresh, and gooey—grab those tortilla chips and dig in right away!

How to serve cottage cheese queso dip

  • Served on top of tacos or nachos
  • Used as a quick cheese sauce for quesadillas or this taco skillet.
  • Enjoyed with your favorite crackers or fresh cut veggies

Endless possibilities and just adding a little bit to your meals adds protein too! Score!

Using a high speed blend to blend the cottage cheese with the taco seasoning until smooth works great. Add a splash of water or lime juice to get is smoother, if needed for thicker cottage cheese.

How do you store and reheat cottage cheese queso?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between in the microwave until hot and cheesy.
