Expert Tips for the best brussels sprouts in the air fryer
- Use fresh Brussels sprouts. Trust me, I tried to air fry frozen, defrosted Brussels sprouts and they just turned out super mushy and not appetizing at all. Buy fresh Brussels sprouts and cut and trim them yourself for the best price and flavor.
- Cut and trim the Brussels sprouts before cooking them. This is very important and will allow them to get super crispy edges and cook more evenly.
- Cook the Brussels sprouts at the right heat and check them halfway through. Cooking Brussels sprouts at 375 degrees F as noted in this recipe and flipping them in the basket halfway through cooking will get them perfectly crispy. Note: the smaller you cut them the shorter the cooking time will be so check them at around 8 minutes.
Substitutions and Variations
- Spicy – Add a drizzle of your favorite hot sauce to give them a nice spicy kick of flavor.
- Bacon-topped Brussels sprouts – Crisp up some bacon, chop it up, and add it as a delicious topping. It’s so good!
- Top them with some chopped, toasted nuts – We love adding some chopped pecans for a nice crunch.
- Maple Brussels sprouts. Skip the garlic and lemon and add a nice drizzle of maple syrups after the Brussels sprouts are done cooking.
- Dijon dressed – Mix up 2 tablespoons of dijon mustard with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of maple syrup, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Pour the dressing over the sprouts when they are done cooking and toss to coat.

FAQs
This will depend on the size of your air fryer since you want them to be in a single layer so they can crisp up nicely when they cook. I tested this recipe in 2 different air fryers and 1 lb of brussels sprouts fit fine in both.
You can cut and season the brussels sprouts and keep them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for a few hours before you cook them. You can also cook them and then reheat them in the air fryer at 350 degrees until they are warmed through. Although they won’t be as crispy as they were when you first made them.
Yes, you can use frozen brussels sprouts but they will not get as crispy as fresh ones and they tend to turn out mushy as well.
Storing and reheating tips
- Storing- to store air fryer Brussels sprouts, let them cool completely, and place them into an airtight container. Keep them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheating – you can reheat them in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 3-4 minutes.
- Freezing – I do not recommend freezing air fryer Brussels sprouts since they will lose their crispy texture and some flavor.
