What is pork tenderloin?
Pork tenderloin is one of the best cuts of pork. It is a low-carb, lean cut of meat that is a different cut of meat from a pork roast since it doesn’t contain any bones! It is like the filet mignon of pork since it is a small size but packed with so much flavor! Making it ideal for those on a low-calorie diet.
If you cannot find a pork tenderloin then try this air fryer pork loin recipe that is just as quick and easy!
How To Select the best pork tenderloin
When selecting a pork tenderloin at the grocery store, look for one that is plump and evenly shaped with a vibrant pink color. Choose a piece with little to no silver skin and minimal excess fat—most butchers are happy to trim it for you if needed. An evenly sized tenderloin will cook more uniformly, giving you the best results. I prefer to buy an unseasoned tenderloin so I can control the flavors myself, but a pre-marinated option works well too if you’re short on time.
Why you’ll love this pork tenderloin recipe
- Quick and easy – the meat cooks in about 15-18 minutes!
- Flavorful and versatile – use any spice blend you like or you can even marinate the pork in advance.
- Healthy – air-frying pork allows you to get a nice golden outer crust without extra oil needed, in a fraction of the time.
- Foolproof recipe – you will get perfectly cooked meat every single time! Making this a great beginner recipe.

Ingredients needed
Here is the list of ingredients you will need for this pork tenderloin air fryer recipe.

- Pork tenderloin – Buy pork tenderloin, not pork loin, since they are different cuts of meat. Tenderloin is thinner, weighs 1-1.5 lbs, and is around 3 inches wide. Pork loin roast is thicker, wider, and weighs 1.5-3 lbs, taking longer to cook. You can find pork tenderloin at most grocery stores.
- Olive oil – this helps the seasoning stick to the pork and helps it get that nice crispy outer layer. To keep the calories even lower you can use olive oil cooking spray.
- Seasoning mix – use any pork seasoning you like in this recipe. I used a combination of garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, Chili Powder, kosher salt, and black pepper.

Common mistakes when making air fried pork tenderloin
- Not Trimming the Tenderloin – be sure to remove the silver skin and any excess fat before seasoning and cooking. The silver skin doesn’t break down during cooking and can make the pork tough and chewy. If you prefer, ask your butcher to trim it for you—it makes prep much easier.
- Under-Seasoning – pork tenderloin is a lean cut of meat with very little fat, which means it relies heavily on proper seasoning for flavor. Lightly coat the entire surface with oil first, then generously season all sides to ensure every bite is flavorful and well-balanced.
- Overcooking – because it’s so lean, pork tenderloin can dry out quickly if overcooked. Use a meat thermometer and cook just until the internal temperature reaches 145°F, then remove it from the heat.
- Skipping the Resting Period – let the pork rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a tender, juicy pork tenderloin instead of one that dries out on the cutting board.
How to prepare pork tenderloin
Since pork tenderloin is a leaner cut of meat, it doesn’t require much prep work.
Most of the time, it will have what is called a “silver skin” on top of it that should be removed since it is tough. The easiest way to do this is to use a sharp knife to cut it off. Simply use your knife to slice through it to cut it off, then discard it. You can also remove any excess fat on the pork tenderloin if you want. I usually ask my butcher to do this for me to make it easier.
How to cook pork tenderloin in the air fryer
This recipe takes less than 20 minutes and makes an impressive meal to serve to guests. Here is a summary for how to make this amazing recipe with step-by-step photos to help guide you.

Season. Mix up the seasoning in a small bowl. Dry the pork tenderloin on clean paper towels then rub the outside of the pork all over with oil. Sprinkle and rub the seasoning all over it on all sides.

Air fry the pork tenderloin. Place the tenderloin into the air fryer basket (preheated if needed) and cook it for 15-18 minutes until the outside is golden brown and the internal temperature of the pork reaches 145° F (you can check this using an instant-read thermometer). Per the recipe card below.

Let it rest. Once the tenderloin is done cooking, remove it from the air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Serve. Use a sharp knife to slice it into medallions and serve.
Pro tip! Dry the pork really well before adding the oil and seasoning, this will allow the seasoning to stick to the meat better, giving it an incredible flavor. I like to use clean paper towels to do this.
Expert Tips For The Best Air Fried Pork Tenderloin
- Make sure to select a pork tenderloin that will fit in your air fryer. This recipe uses a 1.25 lb pork tenderloin to fit into the air fryer. If you use a larger or smaller piece of meat then you will need to adjust the cooking time. If your pork tenderloin is too big to fit your air fryer then you can cut it in half, the cooking time should be the same.
- Dry the pork really well with a clean paper towel since dry pork will hold the seasoning better. This a great tip if this is your first time cooking pork in the air fryer.
- Season it well. Season the pork tenderloin well with the oil and spice rub for the best flavor.
- Flip it over halfway through cooking to make sure it gets nice and crispy on all sides.
- Let it rest. You will want to let the tenderloin rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing it into beautiful pork medallions. This allows the juices to redistribute in the meat, which makes it succulent and delicious.
Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin Recipe Variations and Substitutions
- Seasoning – Switch up the seasoning blend and use any blend you like.
- Tangy and sweet – Add 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard and 1 teaspoon of maple syrup to the seasoning for a tangy flavor with a touch of sweetness.
- Sweet and savory – For a sweeter crust on the pork, add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar to the dry rub seasoning.

What to serve with pork tenderloin
While the pork tenderloin is cooking in the air fryer you can easily whip up some delicious side dishes to serve with it for the best easy dinner. Here are some of my favorite delicious recipes to serve with it!
- Oven Roasted Potatoes and Carrots or Roasted Potatoes and Green Beans.
- Oven Roasted Broccoli or some Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts – healthy and easy
- Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes, Air Fryer Crispy Smashed Potatoes, or some Easy Ranch Roasted Carrots – delicious and kid-friendly.
- Kale and Quinoa Salad, or a Brussels Sprouts Salad.
- Homemade cranberry sauce
Storing and reheating pork tenderloin
- Storing: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freezing: Place the cooked and cooled tenderloin in a freezer-friendly bag or container and keep it in the freezer for up to 4 months. Then thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before reheating it as noted below.
- Reheating: Reheat portions in the microwave or in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes or until warmed through.

Ways to use leftovers
You can heat up any leftovers as noted above and slice them to serve as a protein on healthy salads or make some pork fajitas!
FAQs for Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin
Can you cook frozen pork tenderloin in the air fryer?
You can use a frozen pork tenderloin but would need to thaw it first then dry it really well, add the oil and seasoning, and cook it.
How can I tell when the pork is done cooking?
The best way to know when your pork tenderloin is done is to use a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat. According to the USDA, pork is safe to eat when it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F, followed by a 3–4 minute rest period. This ensures both food safety and a tender, juicy result.
Can I roast this pork tenderloin in the oven?
Yes, you can! To roast it in the oven, season the pork as directed in the recipe, place it onto a greased or prepared baking sheet, and roast it in the oven at 350°F for about 40-45 minutes. Make sure to turn it over halfway through the cooking time to allow it to get nice and crispy on all sides.

Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin
- Total Time: 22 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
- Diet: Low Calorie
Description
Air fryer pork tenderloin comes out perfectly juicy and flavorful in just 18 minutes thanks to the air fryer. This is the best foolproof method that yields incredible results every time!
Ingredients
- 1 (1.25 -2lb) pork tenderloin – cooking times will vary, see recipe notes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil – you may need more if using a larger piece of pork
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- Prep the tenderloin. Use a sharp kitchen knife to remove the “silver skin” on top of the pork tenderloin. Then use a clean towel to dry the meat very well.
- Season. Mix up the seasoning (garlic powder, italian seasoning, chili powder, onion powder, salt and pepper) in a small bowl. Rub the pork all over with the oil then rub the seasoning all over it on all sides.
- Cook. Preheat the air fryer to 380° F and spray the basket with cooking spray (non-aerosol). Once the air fryer is ready, place the seasoned tenderloin into the air fryer basket and cook it for 17-20 minutes, flipping it over halfway through the cooking time. Note: cook until the internal temperature reaches 145° F. You can check this using a meat thermometer.
- Slice and serve. Once the pork tenderloin is fully cooked, remove it from the air fryer and let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing and serving it. Serve warm with your favorite easy side dishes.
Notes
- Use a pork tenderloin that fits in your air fryer. If it doesn’t fit then you can just cut it in half. The cooking time will still be the same. A 1.25-2 lb. pork tenderloin will fit in most air fryers.
- If you are using a smaller or larger pork tender (I used a 1.25lb pork tenderloin) then the cooking times will need to be adjusted.
- Use an instant meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the pork to ensure it is done. You want to cook it until it reaches about 145° F in the center. Be careful not to overcook it since it is a leaner cut of meat and can get dry if overcooked. I like to take it out of the air fryer when it is just under 145°F since it will continue to cook for a few minutes while it rests.
- Let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing and serving it. It should be slightly light pink in the middle, which is what it should be when perfectly cooked.
- Storing and reheating– store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 4 months. Reheat portions in the microwave or in the air fryer until warmed through. If frozen, thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
