Ingredients and Substitutions
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this incredible homemade honey dijon dressing. Here is what you’ll need:

- Dijon mustard – just basic dijon mustard, use your favorite brand. I love Mallies brand.
- Honey – adds a nice sweet element to cut through the acidity of the mustard and vinegar. Any brand of honey is fine. Maple syrup or agave can also be substituted for the honey but will alter the flavor slightly.
- Olive oil – adds some fruity notes and also helps the dressing to emulsify when mixed. There is really no substitute for olive oil in salad dressing, especially a vinaigrette. You want to use a good quality organic olive oil where the only ingredients are extra virgin olive oil.
- Apple cider vinegar – gives the dijon vinaigrette à nice zippy flavor.
- Lemon juice – gives the dressing a nice bright taste. You can use fresh squeezed or bottled lemon juice. Although, fresh squeezed is always best.
- Salt and pepper – to help blend all of the flavors together.

FAQs
Yes, this vinaigrette dressing is very healthy since it is made with all good ingredients, is dairy free, light, and gluten free. Plus, it is refined sugar free as well.
You can use maple syrup or agave in place of the honey if you prefer to although it may alter the flavor of the dressing slightly.
While yellow or stone ground mustard will work, it does not have the same tangy, spicy flavors of dijon mustard. Dijon mustard is also creamier in texture.
