Ingredients needed
Cooking fingerling potatoes in the air fryer only requires a few simple ingredients. Here is what you’ll need:
- Fingerling potatoes – you can use golden fingerling potatoes, red fingerling potatoes, or a medley, which is what I used. Wash and dry the potatoes well before you slice and season them.
- Olive oil – extra virgin olive oil allows the seasoning to stick to the potatoes and helps them crisp up as they cook. You can also use avocado oil.
- Seasoning – I used a combination of garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper but you can use any blend you like. See suggestions below!
Flavor Variations for Fingerling Potatoes
- Garlic parmesan fingerling potatoes – add some grated parmesan cheese and garlic powder when you season the potatoes before you air fry them.
- Rosemary fingerling potatoes – add 1-2 teaspoons of dried rosemary for a nice burst of herby flavor.
- Buttery fingerling potatoes – toss the potatoes in melted butter and your favorite seasoning instead of olive oil for a nice buttery taste. YUM!!! We love to do a buttery garlic combo.
- Spicy fingerling potatoes – add 1-2 teaspoons of chili powder to the seasoning for a nice spicy kick of flavor.

Expert tips for the best results
- Cut the fingerling potatoes into even sizes to ensure they cook at the same time. I like to slice them in half or quarters if some seem bigger.
- Use some oil – The use of a little bit of olive oil helps the seasoning stick to the potatoes and helps them become golden and crispy as they cook.
- Toss halfway – halfway through the cooking time, flip the potatoes lightly in the air fryer basket to get them crispy and golden on all sides.
- Don’t skip the seasoning – potatoes in general have little flavor so adding some seasoning elevates their flavor profile and makes these potatoes amazing!

FAQs
What are fingerling potatoes?
Fingerling potatoes are smaller potatoes that mimic the shape of fingers (hence the name). You can find them at almost any grocery store. You will typically see them as golden, red, or mixed varieties.
Do I need to soak the potatoes before I cook them?
In this recipe, you do not need to soak the potatoes before you cook them. They become wonderfully crispy and golden with no soaking needed.
Can I bake fingerling potatoes in the oven?
Yes, you can! I tested this recipe in the oven and the potatoes came out great cooked at 450°F for about 30 minutes on a lined baking sheet.
How long do fingerling potatoes take in the air fryer?
Fingerling potatoes take about 15-17 minutes to fully cook and become golden and crispy in the air fryer at 400°F. Which is half the time it takes to roast them in the oven for a similar result. Note: air fryers vary so do cooking times. I recommend checking the potatoes at 15 minutes and continue cooking as needed.
How to store and reheat
- Storing: Leftover air fryer fingerling potatoes can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheating: Reheat portions in the air fryer or microwave until warmed through. For the air fryer, I found that 350°F for about 4-6 minutes was the best method to reheat them.
