We love a good burger night in our house (we are all about the themes) and this healthy turkey burger stole the show the last time I made it. I also made this recipe for New Years Eve and everyone raved about them. Even the ground turkey averse people who are only into beef burgers loved these.
These homemade turkey burgers are totally grill-able, moist and juicy plus packed with tons of flavor. I used simple ingredients like ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder and parsley to give them incredible taste and they come out amazing!
Plus these turkey burgers can be made in less than 20 minutes which is great for busy weeknights.
Bonus: My kids devoured them!
Why you’ll love this healthy turkey burger recipe
- It is flavorful and juicy
- A wonderful burger recipe for busy weeknight dinners
- You can make it in under 20 minutes
- It can easily be made gluten free!
- This turkey burger recipe is appetizing and a crowd-pleaser
What makes these turkey burgers healthy?
These burgers are healthier than regular burgers because I used ground turkey instead of ground beef since it is lower in saturated fat. I also used gluten free breadcrumbs and low calorie flavor enhancers like ketchup, dijon mustard, herbs, salt and pepper which all add a ton of flavor without any added fat and calories.
Ingredients you’ll need

- Ground turkey – any ground turkey will work in this turkey burger recipe. I used 93/7 ground turkey. I don’t recommend leaner ground turkey since it may make the burgers dry and less flavorful.
- Breadcrumbs – plain panko breadcrumbs are best but you can use any breadcrumbs you have. You can also use gluten free breadcrumbs.
- Egg – one large egg helps bind all the ingredients together.
- Ketchup and dijon mustard – a masterful combination of flavors that gives these burgers an incredible taste.
- Seasoning – garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, salt and pepper
- Worcestershire sauce – brings out the meaty flavors of the ground turkey.
- Olive oil – adding just a little bit of extra virgin olive oil for some healthy fat helps give the turkey burgers a nice golden outer layer.

How to make a healthy turkey burger
You can make this amazing healthy turkey burger recipe in under 20 minutes in only a few simple steps. Here is a summary with step by step photos to help guide you.
- Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl.
- Mix to fully combine. You can use your hands or a rubber spatula to mix it. I find that using your hands works best.
- Form the burger mixture into 4 even-size patties. You can use a food scale to measure the burgers into 4 oz patties or a ½ cup measuring cup.
- Cook the burgers. Heat up a cast iron grill pan or heavy-bottomed pan with a drizzle of olive oil or avocado oil to medium heat and place the burgers in the pan in an even layer. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the internal temperature of the burgers reaches 165 degrees F.
- Top and serve: remove the burgers from the pan and place them between two buns topped with your favorite toppings (see burger topping suggestions below).

Building and topping the burger is the best part! I used gluten free burger buns that I topped with some mashed avocado mixed with lime and fresh lettuce, tomato salsa and red onion. So good! You can also keep it simple and just top with fresh cut lettuce, tomato and onion.

How can you tell when Turkey burgers are done cooking?
The best way to tell if your turkey burgers are done is once they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F when checked with a meat thermometer. You can achieve this by cooking them for about 3-4 minutes per side. My basic rule is that once I think the burgers need one more minute of cooking, they are probably done.
They come out perfect every time!
My family literally goes crazy for these healthy burgers and we make them at least once a week since they are so easy. I love burgers because you can customize the toppings and bread or simply enjoy them on top of a big heathy salad for a lower-carb option.

Expert tips for making amazing turkey burgers at home
- Use good quality ground turkey that is not too lean. I used 93/7 organic ground turkey. If it is too lean then the burgers won’t be as juicy.
- Dijon mustard instead of yellow mustard in the turkey mixture will give it more zippy flavor.
- Don’t over-mix the burger mixture or the burgers will turn out too tough. Just mix it enough with your hands to incorporate all of the ingredients together.
- Score the burger mixture with your hand before forming the patties to ensure they are even in size. You can also use a food scale and measure the burgers into 4 oz portions before forming them. I used a ½ cup measuring cup to measure out the burger mixture and it came out to four perfect size portions.
- Use a cast iron pan if you have one. I used a cast iron grill pan, which is an amazing pan for burgers. If you don’t have a cast iron pan then any heavy-bottomed pan will work or you can use an indoor grill if you have one. Make sure you brush the pan with olive oil so the burgers do not stick to the pan.
How To Store
To store these turkey burgers: after you cook them, let them cool completely then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Easily reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
You can also freeze these turkey burgers: to freeze, let them cool completely, wrap each burger in plastic wrap, then foil and store them in a freezer-friendly bag or container for up to 2 months. To reheat, place them into the refrigerator overnight and cook them on the stovetop or in the microwave until fully heated through.
