This strawberry banana smoothie is creamy and delicious and can be made with a few simple ingredients in 5 minutes. It is a healthy and refreshing smoothie recipe that the whole family will love!

A strawberry banana smoothie is a classic smoothie flavor that most of us have had, usually from our favorite smoothie shop. But you can easily make a strawberry smoothie at home in about 5 minutes with ingredients you likely already have on hand.
We also love a good green smoothie or mango smoothie!
So of course I had to create my own strawberry banana smoothie recipe that has that classic burst of strawberry that is perfectly creamy and naturally sweetened. It is easy to whip up by blending frozen strawberries, banana, Greek yogurt and maple syrup with a splash of milk and some vanilla in minutes!
Why you’ll love this smoothie recipe
- Quick and easy: you can make this smoothie in 5 minutes!
- Creamy and delicious: perfectly creamy with a nice balance of tart, fruity, and sweet.
- Healthy: loaded with fiber, and protein.
Plus you can customize it with different variations and add-ins, which is great!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients and Substitutions

- Frozen strawberries – use frozen strawberries for a nice creamy, cold, smoothie. Fresh strawberries can also be used but should be balanced with frozen banana so you have one fresh and one frozen fruit for that extra thick and creamy result.
- Bananas – you can use fresh or frozen bananas in this recipe. But as noted above make sure you balance the fresh and frozen fruit.
- Greek yogurt – plain greek yogurt. You can use full-fat, reduced-fat, or fat-free. This makes the smoothie creamy and adds some protein. Non fat yogurt will yield a lighter, thinner smoothie and full fat yogurt will result in a thicker, creamier strawberry smoothie.
- Almond milk – unsweetened almond milk or any milk you like will work.
- Maple syrup – to add a little sweetness. If your bananas are very ripe then you may only need to add a little bit of maple syrup. I like to add it at the end after I blend the smoothie to adjust the flavors if needed.
- Vanilla extract – pure vanilla extract brings a nice warm taste to the smoothie, which helps balance the other flavors.
How to make a strawberry banana smoothie
- Add the strawberries, banana, Greek yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla, and milk to a blender.
- Top with the lid and pulse on high for 30-45 seconds until all of the ingredients are fully incorporated into a smooth, pink smoothie mixture.
- Immediately separate into glasses and enjoy!

Recipe tips and variations
- I recommend using a mix of frozen and fresh fruit for a good mix of texture and flavor. I used frozen strawberries and fresh bananas but you could also use frozen bananas and fresh strawberries.
- To make this recipe dairy-free, use plain coconut yogurt that you can find in most grocery stores.
- Leave out the greek yogurt and add kefir instead for an even healthier smoothie. I also feel like the kefir adds some nice tartness as well.
- To make this recipe without any added sweetener, make sure to use very ripe bananas and strawberries.
Strawberry and banana smoothie add ins
- Chia seeds – add in 1 tablespoon of chia seeds for added fiber and nutrition.
- Protein powder – for a protein packed smoothie add 1 scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder.
- Spinach – to get your greens in, you can add a handful of spinach, which will change the color of the smoothie but it will still be super delicious.
- Add some cauliflower – Frozen cauliflower rice also adds some bulk as well as fiber and you can’t taste it at all.

How do you make smoothies thicker?
The best way that I have found to add more bulk to smoothies is to add more frozen fruit. Smoothies are wonderful when you mix frozen and fresh fruit rather than ice to make them thicker. I always feel like the ice waters it down whereas fruit gives it flavor and makes it creamier, like a frosty or shake.
Is this strawberry smoothie healthy?
Yes! Most smoothies are healthy as long as they use real, fresh ingredients and don’t add too much fat. This smoothie recipe is made with all whole ingredients, is packed with protein and fiber, and is lower in calories for a nutritious and healthy breakfast or snack you can make in 5 minutes.
Storage
This strawberry banana smoothie is best if enjoyed right away. You can store it in an airtight jar (mason jar) in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and then give it a good stir and enjoy it.
