Description

This easy air fryer whole chicken is the best way to get that rotisserie-style chicken every time.  Juicy, succulent, crispy chicken that is bursting with flavor in just 60 minutes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3-5 pound) whole chicken – giblets removed
  • 12 tablespoons avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F.
  2. Prepare the chicken – remove the chicken from the packaging and remove the giblets from the inside cavity if there are any in there. Then use a clean kitchen towel to dry the chicken all over.
  3. Season – rub or brush the oil all over the chicken on both sides. In a small bowl combine the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.  Then rub the seasoning all over the chicken on both sides.
  4. Cook – spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking, then carefully place the seasoned chicken, breast-side down into the air fryer basket.  Cook the chicken for 50 minutes, flip it over and cook it for 10 more minutes. Cook the chicken until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 160 degrees F checked by a meat thermometer. Note: the chicken will continue cooking to 165 degrees F as it rests. This is called the carry-over cooking time.
  5. Serve – once the chicken is done cooking, remove it from the air fryer and place it onto a cutting board. Let it rest for at least 10 minutes, then carve it and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure to get a chicken that will fit in your air fryer. Most air fryers can fit a 3-5 pound whole chicken.
  • Dry the chicken well before you season it. Then season it really well all over on both sides.
  • Cook the chicken until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
  • Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before you carve and serve it to allow the juices to stay inside the chicken.
  • Storing once you have cooked the chicken you can carve it and then keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it in a freezer-friendly container for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating –  reheat portions right from the fridge in the microwave or in the oven at 350 degrees F until warmed through. For frozen chicken, let it thaw in the fridge overnight before you reheat it.
