Description

This easy chicken burger recipe is inspired with Greek flavors like dill, feta, spinach and tomatoes. It is made with ground chicken and is juicy and bursting with flavor. Enjoy it on a bun with tzatziki sauce or in a burger bowl for a protein-packed meal everyone will love!

Ingredients

Scale

For the chicken burgers

  • 1 pound ground chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach leaves, stems removed and chopped
  • 1/3 cup chopped sun dried tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup minced red onion
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped dill – you can also use 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1 large egg, lightly whisked
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for cooking
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

For topping and serving the burgers

  • 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce – I used cedars store-bought brand
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced cucumber
  • 4 slices of large tomato
  • Burger buns or lettuce leaves

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, add all burger ingredients and mix well until fully combined. It is helpful to use your hands for this step
  2. Form burger mixture into 4-5 even size patties and place onto a clean plate or lined baking pan
  3. Cover the burgers and chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Heat the grill or grill pan to medium heat and brush the burgers with some olive oil to prevent sticking. Cook the burgers for 5 minutes on each side until cooked through and golden brown.
  5. Then it is time to assemble and serve the burgers with your favortie buns and toppings of choice. I used store-bought tzatziki sauce, sliced red onion, sliced cumber and sliced tomato. to top the burgers.

    Notes

    • Press your thumb down in the center of each burger patty. This will help the burgers cook more evenly.
    • Use your hands to mix the burger mixture. This will help combine the ingredients better but it will be a little bit messier. If you want, you can use some thin plastic gloves over your hands to keep your hands clean while mixing or just wash your hands really well after you mix the ingredients together.
    • Use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to form the burger mixture into even size chicken burger patties. I use a heaping 1/2 cup measuring cup.
    • Let the burgers chill before cooking so they hold together better.
    • You can easily make these burgers ahead of time and keep them covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours before grilling or cooking.
    • To cook these chicken burgers in the oven, place them onto a sprayed baking sheet and cook them in a 400F degree preheated oven for 20 minutes, flipping them over halfway through the cooking time.
    • To freeze these burgers, form the patties and place them between parchment paper in a freezer-friendly container and freeze for up to one month. When ready to cook or grill let them defrost in the refrigerator overnight, then cook as directed in this recipe.
    • To store these burgers after they have been cooked just place them into an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.  Easily reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
