Instructions
Make the brownies
- Preheat the oven to 350°F, line a 9-inch round cake pan or 8×8 pan with parchment paper, and spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt)in a large mixing bowl.
- Mix the wet ingredients (oil or butter, eggs, maple syrup, coconut sugar, vanilla) in a separate medium bowl.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients into a smooth brownie batter. Stir in the chocolate chips, if using.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it out in an even layer. Bake the brownies on the middle rack of the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until set and a toothpick inserted in the middle of the brownies comes out mostly clean with a few wet crumbs on it.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes. Then run a butter knife around the edge of the pan and carefully invert the pan to remove the baked brownies. They should come right out.
- Use a sharp kitchen knife to cut the brownies into even-sized triangles.
Decorate The Brownies
- Mix up the frosting, frost each brownie with a knife or you can fill a piping bag with a star tip to pipe the frosting on the brownies. Then add your festive sprinkles.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- I recommend using a 9×9 round cake pan or an 8×8 baking pan to cook the brownies.
- You can use the homemade brownie recipe or a store-bought boxed brownie mix.
- Allow the brownies to cool before you cut them or they may fall apart a bit. The cooling time is essential.
- You can make and color your frosting or buy green frosting at most grocery stores during the holidays as a shortcut. We made buttercream frosting and colored it using green gel food coloring.
- Get creative and use any festive sprinkles or decorations for the Christmas trees.
- Store leftovers in a covered container in the fridge for up to 4 days
